Presenters
Alan Boyd
Some people say "music is life", I think that's only slightly true... I say "Rock Music is life essential".
I have been playing in bands for over 38 years and lived through a lot of changes in music styles.
Seeing many of the bands live that sit at the top of the rock catalogue including Queen, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Slipknot, and Ozzy has only galvanised my musical resolve.
In fact, researching for Northern Rocks Radio has introduced me to newer bands I've heard of, but not actually heard... and I have to say, rock music is in safe hands.
Al Gilmore
I’m Al Gilmore, presenter of the Southern Rock show on Nothern Rock Radio. I’m a 50-something retail manager by day but have done something musical on the side since I was 17. I’ve been a singer/lyricist for original bands most of that time but I also reviewed bands & gigs. I am the lead singer in Symply Skynyrd-NI, Ireland's only tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd. I’ve been doing that for the past 5 years and it rekindled my love for Skynyrd and all things Southern Rock and Blues. I jumped at the chance to do a radio show exploring this oft-forgotten, sometimes criticised genre. I decided to do a deep dive into the origins & history of the genre from the 1960s to the present day. I hope the listeners get as much from listening to the show as I have researching it and putting it together.
Chris Delaney
'Mort'
'Shaboo'
Steven Hughes known as 'Shaboo' to most people who know him, has been a connoisseur of musical diversity for the last 40 years. Even from the beatbox days in the early 1980s… but we'll leave that there!
Moving through the musical rites of passage including rock and metal, Shaboo has found his heart in Northern Soul, Ska and Skinhead music. He has been heavily involved in the local Scooter scene with many scooter rallies around the UK and further.
Stevie Hamilton
Like all the other hosts at Northern Rocks Radio Stevie has been in and around music and bands for over 35 years. Well-educated and with a vocabulary to match, Stevie's musical knowledge is both in-depth and musically far-flung...
Playing the bass for over three decades Stevie has an ear for the saucy bass line, whether that be the complexity of the bass line, or just their infectious grooves that drives a song home.. if it's rock, metal, punk, funk, grunge or alternate. Stevie will know it..
Scott McFadden
I'm Scott and I was the kid that grew up listening to his parents music. I was lucky to have parents with great taste so I spent my formative years listening to Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, etc. While all the other teenagers went through their emo Linken Park phase I was just discovering Appetite for Destruction. As an adult my tastes have expanded to grunge, alternative, punk, metal and some odd stuff... but what I love most is the energy and raw passion of live music. And that's why I'm the host of Live and Loud on Northern Rocks Radio.
